Thankfully drywall can be repaired either by a Drywall Contractor or DIY. No matter which method if done correctly you shouldn’t even be able to notice the repair site.
The following step will walk you through a proper drywall repair for small holes.
- Determine the appropriate thickness of our existing drywall and buy or acquire a clean piece of sheetrock.
- Cut a square or rectangular piece of drywall a little bit bigger than the hole.
- Hold the new piece of drywall over the damaged wall and trace the new piece of drywall.
- Check inside the wall behind your trace marks for wires or anything that might be in the way.
- Use a drywall saw, box knife, razor blade or some type of sharp blade to cut the drywall along the traced perimeter.
- Use two pieces of wood, longer than the hole is wide. One for the top and one for the bottom. Place these pieces inside the hole spanning beyond the damage. You will screw these two pieces in behind the drywall. Giving the new drywall pieces a back brace of sorts.
- Place the new drywall piece in its newly cut place and screw to the wood behind it.
- Spread compound over the new drywall piece a little way beyond the border, placing the mesh over and into the compound.
- Sand the area to blend
- Apply more compound and sand until the drywall repair is unnoticeable
- Apply appropriate texture if needed
- Paint area to blend with your wall
